PSG suffer shock defeat at home against Nantes

Nantes defeated PSG 2-1 at the Parc des Princes thanks to Randal Kolo and Moses Simon’s goals in the second half.

PSG came into this match on the back of a UEFA Champions League victory over Barcelona, and they produced the best chances in the first few minutes. PSG’s Angel Di Maria and Marquinhos both came close to breaking the deadlock in the first 15 minutes but could not do so.

Soon after Kolo went down in the net, the Nantes players made minor appeals for a penalty, but the referee waved to continue play on, and the VAR upheld his decision. The visitors were inspired to create their next best chance, but Keylor Navas was up to the challenge of stopping Ludovic Blas.

Julian Draxler showed great anticipation to take advantage of a rebound in the area three minutes before the break, and PSG ended the deadlock. This put the home team ahead and gave them a half-time lead, but their lead was wiped out just 15 minutes later.

Randal Kolo pounced on a poor pass by Kylian Mbappe, and the Nantes striker made no mistake from 15 yards out.

In the 71st minute, Nantes took the lead. Kolo won a routine punt from goalkeeper Alban Lafont in the open, and the 22-year-old showed great strength to sprint at the PSG defence before square-bowling strike partner Moses Simon.

There was a brief search for an offside ruling in the buildup, but the Nigerian international converted with a one-time finish from six yards. After a VAR study, the target was given the green light.

Despite being in the lead, Nantes continued to press and proved too much for PSG to manage.

Charles Traore went down late in the game after a hefty challenge by Thilo Kehrer, but he could finish the game after being treated by the medical staff.

Nantes held on for a dramatic win over PSG, bringing them up to the 18th position on the table.
