PCB: Pakistan’s batsman Umar Akmal suspended for three years

Pakistan’s cricket board announced on Monday that the country’s batsman Umar Akmal was suspended for three years from participating in all forms of cricket events due to failure to disclose match-fixing approaches.

According to PCB tweet “Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel Mr Justice (retired) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan issued a three-year ban on all crickets on Umar Akmal”.

Umar’s suspension is valid as of February 20, when, under its anti-corruption policy, the board temporarily suspended him, which specifies that a player must report being approached to match-fixing.

A disciplinary committee reported the decision after a brief meeting with the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Since his first Test in 2009, Umar exploded onto the scene with a century, but his career was damaged due to disciplinary issues, bringing him numerous suspend and fines.

He was charged after a scuffle with a traffic warden who detained him for a signal breach in February 2014.

Last year, Umar played for Pakistan in two Twenty20 internationals against Sri Lanka in Lahore, losing on both occasions to first ball ducks.

Umar has played for Pakistan 16 Tests, 121 one-day games and 84 Twenty20s so far.
