Kieron Pollard to begin in CPL 2020 as Trinbago Knight Riders captain

Kieron Pollard will be captain of the Trinbago Knight Riders in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League season. Pollard takes over the captaincy from Dwayne Bravo, who is 2017 and 2018, helped the side to take back-to-back CPL titles.

After being hit on the hand through a net session on the eve of the tournament launch, Bravo was slated to captain last year too but missed the entire tournament. Pollard, the white-ball skipper of the West Indies, captained the Knight Riders to the playoffs, where they were knocked out by eventual Barbados Tridents champions.

Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard are good friends, and both of them will come together this year to give us the best opportunity at the CPL. Bravo said he played under Pollard before and this is going to be the best thing for both parties at this time. Pollard had been lovely enough to accept the role to lead the tournament team. He said he would if the club needs him to do so. The club is delighted to have Pollard again as its captain.

Nevertheless, Bravo will remain a member of the leadership community of the squad and will be the team’s official vice-captain on the field. Both Bravo and Pollard have captained each other at local and international level. They are also very comfortable working together and exchanging knowledge, both of which are highly welcoming in their leadership style.

The Knight Riders will kick off CPL 2020 on August 18 with a match against five-time Guyana Amazon Warriors finalists. This year, owing to the Coronavirus pandemic all games in the season will be played in Trinidad & Tobago. The final is set to take place at Brian Lara Stadium on September 11.
