How the club is shaping up for Big Bash League 2020-21 – Sydney Sixers

With the player contracting window for the Big Bash League 2020-21 clubs set to open in the coming weeks, we’ve laid out all the specifics of who your team has under lock and key and who might be exploring the open market.

Sydney Sixers

Big Bash League 2019-20 result: Champions (second on the regular season standings)

Big Bash League 2020-21 squad so far:  Jackson Bird, Sean Abbott, Jack Edwards, Tom Curran (Eng), Ben Dwarshuis,  Daniel Hughes, Moises Henriques, Stephen O’Keefe, Josh Philippe, Nathan Lyon, Jordan Silk, Lloyd Pope

Big Bash League 2019-20 squad members off contract: Mickey Edwards,  Josh Hazlewood, Justin Avendano,  Ben Manenti, Daniel Fallins, Henry Thornton, Hayden Kerr, James Vince (Eng), Steve Smith

A formidable outfit with full strength, the Sydney Sixers have done a masterful job of finding players who could make meaningful contributions when games missed by the likes of Stephen O’Keefe, Sean Abbott and Tom Curran.

Curran was again a top performer last summer for the Sydney Sixers, and has a long-term deal with the franchise.

The Sydney Sixers are hoping that Steve Smith, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon (who all participated in their final campaign last summer) or even Mitchell Starc will be able to slide into the odd game when international duties allow, although they may not be as lucky to have so many of them available at the pointy end of the season.

With their bowling stocks pretty good, finding another excellent top-order batter (overseas or local) that’s available for most of the season to partner rising star and the Big Bash League 2019-20 player of the final Josh Philippe seems a sensible decision.
