How the club is shaping up for Big Bash League 2020-21 – Adelaide Strikers

With the player contracting window for the Big Bash League 2020-21 clubs set to open in the coming weeks, we’ve laid out all the specifics of who your team has under lock and key and who might be exploring the open market.

Adelaide Strikers

Big Bash League 2019-20 result: Third (lost to Sydney Thunder in Knockout final)

Big Bash League 2020-21 squad so far: Michael Neser, Travis Head, Matt Short, Harry Nielsen, Cameron Valente, Peter Siddle, Jon Wells, Billy Stanlake, Jake Weatherald

Big Bash League 2019-20 squad members off contract:  Alex Carey, Wes Agar, Rashid Khan (Afg), Harry Conway, Phil Salt (Eng), Jake Lehmann, Liam O’Connor, Nick Winter, Cameron White

Presumed star import Rashid Khan gets his wish and returns to church city and gloveman Alex Carey does the same, the Strikers still have their Big Bash League 2019-20 side’s bare bones that finished third.

Their Knockout final exit to the Sydney Thunder revealed their reliance on the likes of their leading lights – Peter Siddle, Carey, Rashid, Michael Neser, Travis Head and breakout star Jon Wells – as they struggled to chase a modest total amid solid efforts from those six.

Improvement from younger players like Matt Short and Billy Stanlake, both of whom were underperforming last summer, would make them a more consistent force, as could Matthew Renshaw’s touted addition.

Finding another or two reliable fast bowlers (Wes Agar, who took 17 wickets but was costly at times last season is off-contract) to complement Neser and Siddle, as well as adding some spin depth to cover for Rashid, may also be a priority.
