Baccarat is a unique poker game that originated in Italy. It was introduced to France in the fifteenth century and later became popular in the United Kingdom, and even in South America.

THE OBJECT OF THE GAME

THE TABLE
There are 9 to 14 player seats, depending on the Baccarat version, and a dealer’s area. Whatever the number of players seated, only two hands of cards are dealt: the Player’s and the Banker’s. Players aren’t having their own cards; each has its own betting field.
THE THREE BETTING AREAS
Each player will find three-bet boxes above their number on the top of the felt table, one each for Player, Banker and Tie.
THE DEALER
The dealer starts by handing out the cards. The dealer stands at the centre of the Baccarat table in front of the players to reach every spot on the table.
THE COMMISSION BOX
The dealer takes a commission of 5% on winning bets on the hand of the banker. In full Baccarat, a long rectangle filled with numbers is called the commission box, located next to the bank, and is used to keep track of all commissions. A reward circle is next to any single betting area on other Baccarat tables. The increasing number represents a player, and the dealer will mark it each time a player owes commission before the player is prepared to pay and leave the table.

- Once the point value reaches a double-digit, the second digit becomes the hand value automatically.
- E.g. with this rule, 10 is worth 0, 11 is worth 1, 12 is value 2, and so on. Drop the first digit after the total points reach 10, and that is the hand score.
- Thus a hand of 9 and 6, that adds up to 15 becomes a hand of 5. Only a wager on the hand which is closest to 9 will win.
HOW A ROUND WORKS
Know how cards are dealt – A total of four cards are dealt to the table once the bets are placed:
- First, the dealer slides out a card and places it in the Player box.
- The next card is put in the Banker box. This is repeated so that there are two cards in each box.
Natural win – If the total points for either the Player’s or the Banker’s hand on the first two cards dealt are 8 or 9, then this is called a natural win, and the game is over. Bets placed are paid out.
When is a third card drawn –
If neither hand totals 8 or 9, depending on its total, the dealer may draw an additional card from one or more hands. A great thing about Baccarat is that the rules are very clear on when a third card is drawn.
