Du Plessis promise to play for South Africa

Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has promised to participate playing in the 2020/21 season in all three game formats for South Africa country, a boost for a test side lacking experience and depth in the batting squad.

The 35-year-old surrendered the captaincy to Quinton de Kock in the limited overs formats and the squad will also have a new test skipper for their West Indies match, which is still planned to begin late July.

Du Plessis says that the Indian Premier League was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This condition  has reignited his urge to stay in the international arena.

He will be making himself eligible for up-coming one-day International series that hasn’t been used in the 50-over format since England’s 2019 World Cup.

“I continue to enjoy playing for the Proteas. I am still seeing myself adding tremendous value, “he said on Monday in an interview with Cricket South Africa.

“I still like to play all kinds of games. This time away from the game, making sure the passion is still there for me and that’s an important thing for players to keep passion for what they’re doing. “

Du Plessis says he’s going to miss the captaincy, but he’s enjoying a job as a mentor for the next generation of leaders.

“Five or six guys have a great opportunity to gather together and build a leadership group in the Proteas that will push the community for the next four to five years.”

Since taking over the job from AB de Villiers in 2016, Du Plessis has won 18 of his 36 tests as captain.
