VPL, Day 7 Highlights

The VPL T10 carnival rolled into Thursday’s penultimate day of league play. Dark View Explorers lost the first match to Fort Charlotte Strikers, giving the initiative to Asif Hooper’s Grenadine Divers in the knockout race who also lost their match to Salt Pond Breakers table-toppers. La Soufriere Hikers took the last game of the day to reach the table’s top with the Breakers.

Three of the four semifinal spots have already been secured, with two teams in the running for the final spot. Salt Pond breakers bowler Wesrick Strough bowls a tremendous 10th over throughout the competition. In the last over, the batsmen run hard, give it all with their shots, but this is not enough. They had to get 17. They needed 6 to win the last ball but swings and misses from Obed McCoy. This was an intense ending and a close match. However, the Salt Pond Breakers again dominate at the end of the day. The 6th win in 7 games. As for the knockout spots equation, the Grenadine Divers still hold on to a 4th spot.

A full victory for the La Soufriere Hikers as they continue their VPL dominance, they transfer to 12 points alongside Salt Pond Breakers, joint table toppers. The top half of the VPL points table are Salt Pond Breakers, La Soufriere Hikers (12 points), and Botanic Garden Rangers (8 points). Dark View Explorers and Grenadine Divers (both 4 points) are the two teams that will fight for the last remaining place in the knockouts when the VPL returns on Friday for one last league match.
