Over 20 years, BBC finally airs Test cricket on TV for the first time

The 5-year BBC Sport contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board will allow it to display 100 hours of cricket every summer.BBC television will show international cricket for the first time in 21 years.

It will broadcast on BBC Two, from July, highlights from every Test and One Day International. 2009 Cricket World Cup winner Isa Guha will be the BBC TV Cricket Coverage Lead host. Isa will be in front of the highlights show at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on July 8 with the first Test between England and the West Indies. The matches will be set behind closed doors.

Isa will be alongside lead analyst of BBC Cricket, former ashes-winning England captain Michael Vaughan. They will be joined by England’s record test run-scorer Sir Alastair Cook and West Indies’ 2016 World T20 final hero Carlos Brathwaite. Respected broadcaster Alison Mitchell and former England’s spinner Phil Tufnell, will complete the team to provide commentary on the TV highlights.

Before that, Guha, who has been a regular on the BBC’s Test Match Special since she retired from an 11-year international career, will present a four-part weekly series that starts on Saturday, June 6, and looks back on classic matches between England and West Indies.

On July 12, BBC One viewers will also watch a new documentary called ‘One Day’ that looks back on that unforgettable Sunday of 2019 July 14. England thrillingly won the Cricket World Cup at the same time as Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer’s five-hour epic Wimbledon finals.

The live radio will continue broadcasting the Test Match Special commentaries about every summer ball in England, along with some special programming that includes rewinds of classic matches and podcasts.

The website of the BBC Sport will hold live in-play footage of all matches in England and will have daily columns from England bowler Mark Wood and England female captain Heather Knight and our cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew.

BBC Sounds will continue to be the place to find Tailenders for podcasts fans, including the all-time leading wicket-taker James Anderson from England, and TMS highlights and the Stumped show from the BBC World Service.
