Membership of International Cricket Council (ICC)

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is an independent regulatory body for international cricket. It was formed as an Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by the members of England, Australia and South Africa. It was renamed International Cricket Conference in 1965 and eventually renamed International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1989. Its headquarters are based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The acting Chairman of the ICC is Shashank Manohar and the Chief Executing Officer is Manu Sawhney.

There are 104 nations in ICC under three different types of memberships namely Full Members, Associate Members, and Affiliate Members. Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, England, India, New Zealand, Australia, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and are full members. There are 92 associate members under ICC and 56 affiliates members currently.

The main function of ICC is to organize major international cricket events like the Cricket World Cup. Besides, it is also responsible for hiring all umpires and referees for the event it organizes. Although it deals with the code of conduct and the professionalism of discipline and action against any corruption and match fixing. But it does not have any copyright laws and it is with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

The main source of income for the ICC is the organization of the tournaments (primarily the Cricket World Cup). The ICC shares a substantial portion of its earnings between its Member States. Between 2007 and 2015, the ICC gained US$ 1.6 billion from advertising and broadcasting rights. Certain streams of revenue may provide profits from ICC participation and funding and investment profit.

ICC’s 2015-2023 revenue period is expected to be around US$ 2.5 billion, with BCCI accounted for about 23 per cent, while England and Australia will account for about 6 per cent to 10 per cent. In fact, the balance of the remaining is allocated to all Associate Members.
